Aileen's Journey on the 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Course 


I've been working in Womens Fitness Gym in Limerick for just over 5 years. I feel that our gym has a unique energy and a great atmosphere. In my time here, I've been fortunate enough to acquire so many different skill sets and I'm encouraged to grow continuously. I love the versatility of my job and get to teach classes, which vary from spinning, kettlebells, pilates, etc., and yoga. I have always loved fitness and I'm passionate about helping others on their fitness journey, it is so rewarding! I also get the experience in work to welcome in new clients, through membership sales and drop-ins, and I love my semi-private personal training sessions.

Womens Fitness Gyms have now grown to have gyms in Limerick and Cork and we also have "Barefoot Yoga", our yoga studio in Lucan, Dublin. In September 2019 I started my 200 hour Yoga Diploma course in Dublin and am currently halfway through my journey and it's been amazing! The instructors are very knowledgeable and each one has different areas of expertise. Michael has taught us a lot on breath work...Pranayama, sectional breathing and Ujjayi breathing and also went through the 8 limbs of Yoga and Yoga Nidra. Claire has taught us about the importance of teachers' presence and teachers' voices, teaching in pairs and how we instruct our class from beginning to end. She also went through Asana practice (postures and poses) and meditation with us. Grace has touched on Asana practice flow workshops, qualities of a Yoga teacher, Yama and Niyama, space and respect, teaching practice and simple Yoga flow. Paula has great knowledge on anatomy. We have covered the muscular system, the human skeleton, the vertebral column, and pelvis, and we have completed assignment No.1 of 4 on the above. Throughout the course, we have continuous assessments and keep a weekly journal that documents our progress, our practice and we also take note of any challenges that arise. The instructors are really approachable and we can contact them at any time with any questions. We have a really dynamic group; someone with my background in health and fitness, hairstylist, construction worker, homemaker, and school teacher. Yoga can be applied and be of huge benefit to anyone and everyone, from all walks of life. 
I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to change their life for the better. It is open to all age groups, all types of people. Anyone interested in Yoga, from complete beginner to advanced, will reap the benefits of what this course has to offer. We get lesson plan templates to work from and we can also personalize our own plans. I now teach Yoga in Women's Fitness 5 months into the course! I teach classes of Hatha of up to 35 people and couldn't be happier! 
I would invite each and everyone to come and try it out as I am confident you will catch the Yoga bug too! I would like to thank the team at "Barefoot Yoga" for making the course so enjoyable and easy. I also want to take this opportunity to thank my work colleagues for continuing to encourage my constant growth in work. Their energy and enthusiasm are infectious and naturally spreads to everyone that enters our doors, and our client's progress and growth are of equal importance. I will be looking forward to updating you in the near future on my progress. Yoga is not just a form of exercise in its way of life. It encourages people to be accepting, non-judgemental and loving towards all. Promoting a life that is happy, healthy and free. Until then, Namastè, and always remember.....just breathe!
